JOHN BASEDOW'S MIDNIGHT

My sister is a working dog on a ranch and all that herding keeps her fit and trim. I love to dance and so I am healthy and gorgeous, too. However, I imagine that John Basedow's Midnight has us both beat, paws down. I suppose if we had a personal trainer, we would be perfect, too.

Midnight's person, internationally famous fitness expert John Basedow, is the creator of the best-selling Fitness Made Simple video series, which has helped to improve the bodies and lives of thousands of men and women. He's also a model, television star, and so much more.

Like me, Midnight is very special, as our conversation clearly demonstrates:

Talisman: I believe that, in the cosmic design, we animals are here to help people find their way. Presume I am correct (of course) and tell me what human you were born to help, and what lesson you are here to help that person learn.

Midnight: I believe the universe works in strange and mysterious ways, all with a grand purpose in mind that we may never fully comprehend. The one thing I am sure of is that I was put here to bring joy to my best friend, who I refer to as JB. He's extremely focused, driven, and works all the time to help others improve their bodies and lives, often to the point of missing a lot of the simple pleasures. That's when I jump on his lap, chew toy in mouth, and look at him with a gaze he can't resist. I've conditioned him well to understand that this means it's time for a break. A long walk, a game of fetch, or simply a chance to smell the roses...the activity doesn't matter. I see his childlike smile light up the room, and I know I've done my job.

Talisman: Do you believe in a Divine Being?

Midnight: I believe there is a great power that brought JB and I together. He teaches us to not let anyone put limitations on our abilities and that if we believe in ourselves we can accomplish anything. He's also equipped me with great powers, like being able walk on my hind legs for a freakishly long time and open up cabinet doors with just the touch of a paw. Yes, I'm very special. :)

Talisman: Are you afraid of death?

Midnight: I haven't really thought about it. JB always says he gave up aging one year for Lent and just never picked it back up. I guess if some force did separate us, I wouldn't bet on it being for a long time. The universe is a magical place, grounded in goodness, and no good could come from us being apart.

Talisman: What do you want your legacy to be?

Midnight: My legacy is that I intend to be here, doing amazing things, for a very long time. This guy needs me and I want to be by his side through all of the awesome adventures that are out there awaiting us.

Talisman: What gives you the greatest joy?

Midnight: That would be walking and taking a nap. I love to walk...anywhere and everywhere...and I never tire. I will walk anyone into the ground...anyone except JB. Yet another reason why I know there's a divine being who was brilliant enough to put us together in the first place. Once the walking is done, I enjoy nothing more than jumping on that aerobed and taking nap with my buddy, while reruns of Kathy Griffin's My Life On The D-List play during a Bravo marathon in the background. Mmm...pure joy.

Fueled by an undying persistence and his personal motto “believe in yourself and you can accomplish anything”, John Basedow has achieved international recognition and created a media empire with Fitness Made Simple, which includes DVD's, CD’s, supplements, and infomercials all aimed at raising awareness about the importance of making fitness a part of daily life. In addition to being a model that's graced the pages of just about every major exercise magazine, John's also a widely respected columnist who has written articles for over a dozen publications. He stars in the new reality series, John Basedow TV, which is based on his life. Building on his nationwide popularity, John Basedow TV is a "feel good" show that delivers John's positive message for your body and mind…in a creative, engaging way with a rare mix of inspirational and comedic elements. John is a spokesperson for the American Heart Association and has led their annual Heart Walk for the past three years. He also works with various other charities, including the American Diabetes Association which gave him an award in 2008, and motivates people of all ages, from teenagers to grandparents, to follow their dreams with his popular Power To Change Your Body & Life Seminars. As John says, “If you can think it, you can do it. Don’t listen to negative people. If you focus on your goals, work hard and never quit, you can achieve anything.” His website is: http://www.fitnessmadesimple.com/

DOMIZIANO ARCANGELI'S LEO

I do consider myself to be very exotic. I mean, really, just LOOK at my eyes! However, I will admit to being upstaged by Leo, who is an F1 pure breed Savannah cat, which is exceptionally rare. Leo's person, actor and movie producer Domiziano Arcangeli, says that, true to his breed, he is brilliant.

So, please enjoy the following conversation between two rare and brilliant individuals!

Talisman: I believe that, in the cosmic design, we animals are here to help people find their way. Presume I am correct (of course) and tell me what human you were born to help, and what lesson you are here to help that person learn.

Leo: I was definitely born to help my beloved companion Domiziano. He loves me like I am his son, maybe a little too much at times..he seems to have a hard time realizing that especially I, a wild cat, first generation born in captivity, but son of a real African Serval and a wild Bengal mother, have still real JUNGLE BLUE BLOOD in my veins, and am not always so patient with the human world and its hypocritical rules. I am glad I am here for Domi (that's what we call him for short) though: he's an actor and film producer and his life is very stressful. I am here to remind him of the true power of life and nature, of the higher learning of being a free animal even in a world dominated by laws and rules. And I know that when he is with me he feels more free and truly loved; I know he knows I don't hide anything and what I give is for real. Maybe Domi should understand that I cannot be his real son: he misses not having kids and thinks I am his own, but by any means, I am only the son of wild mother nature. And I can love Domi but on my own path. Because I am who I am and don't ever compromise.

Talisman: Do you believe in a Divine Being?

Leo: I truly believe in a Divine Being. It's pagan, but it's stronger and more real than any other religion I have heard of. The wind whispers you its rules and you know it's always there for you..it guides you through the day and bewitches you under the moon at night. When I find my way home through the Hollywood Hills (I know I should not run away but sometimes I can't help myself and just run and hunt all day!) I look at the stars and I know the one that shines is talking to me, and it's taking me home. I know I have a soul, because I am innocent and cannot lie ever. When Domi is with me, he feels safe because I teach him to love without ever asking, but only with the pleasure of giving. I am only one who gives freely, loves fully and without fears or arrangements. My God is out there in whatever mother nature presents to me every day: and it's good and simple and absolute in its simplicity.

Talisman: Are you afraid of death?

Leo: I am not afraid of death. Life is just a cycle and everybody has to go through it! It is just one of the many steps of ones existence! I am only afraid to lose my dignity, that truly scares me! Maybe because I feel like a bit of a king and I am certainly closer to lions and leopards than most cats I know, I would never want to lose the beauty of my body, the spiritual essence of my being, the natural yet innocent freedom that nature gave when I was born. I want to die as I was born: with honor and dignity.

Talisman: What do you want your legacy to be?

Leo: My legacy is freedom to all animals, respect of the wild, no more cages or compromises, no more human lies. The legacy is the truth of a life with a freedom of choice.

Talisman: What gives you the greatest joy?

Leo: As in for now? Some fresh raw chopped meat!! Just kidding... Domi likes to spoil me a bit.. The greatest joy is being up in the trees looking at the moon and making sure my lovely master Domiziano can sleep well and rest after a long day of work without being disturbed by strangers. When I go and wake him up in the very early morning I love kissing him on the cheeks..he knows that my feelings are true. And I know he cares for me with all of his life. That's joy for both of us! :)

Domiziano Arcangeli is an actor and movie producer. He started his career in Italy when he was 12 and worked in the Academy Award Winning film Intervista by Federico Fellini, and co-starred with Sean Connery in The Name of the Rose and with Mickey Rourke in St. Francis Of Assisi. He has also worked with master cult genre directors like Lucio Fulci, Tinto Brass, Jess Franco, Anthony Dawson, Umberto Lenzi among others. These films were recently re-discovered by Quentin Tarantino and by the Grind House Fans and have recently become cult DVD bestsellers in newly re-mastered versions.

He is currently executive producing and starring in 3 feature films: House of Flesh Mannequins, Orgy of Blood, and Box of Shadows. They are all just being completed at this time and scheduled for several international Film Festivals. Other projects he can be seen in are Universal's Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno, Sci/fi Channel's Frankenstein Rising, and Showtime's Sin's Kitchen opposite Dennis Hopper and Jeffrey Wright.

Zoë Roché's Ruby

My person, Val, is a great singer, so I can appreicate how much Ruby enjoys being the companion of Zoë Roché, the singer of alternative rock group LOONER. Ruby, herself, is an expert in style, and so she and I have a lot in common. Every day I wear a totally chic neckscarf that always makes a statement. Today's scarf is embroidered with the words, "I'm Red Hot!" I make no apologies because, after all, confidence is sexy. Please enjoy my interview with stylish Shih Tzu, Ruby:

Talisman: I believe that, in the cosmic design, we animals are here to help people find their way. Presume I am correct (of course) and tell me what human you were born to help, and what lesson you are here to help that person learn.

Ruby: I act as a kind of guru and style expert for Zoë and her band, Looner. Because let's be honest, true beauty may come from within, but if you look a hot mess no one's gonna pay attention. It is show business after all.

Talisman: Do you believe in a Divine Being?

Ruby: Zoë, when she puts her mind to it, can be quite divine. Just the other day she took an old tee shirt and a new swath of fabric and created a cocktail dress that Project Runway should patent. We're in talks now. Her creativity and beauty is boundless. Divine, even.

Talisman: Are you afraid of death?

Ruby: I am not sure to what you are referring….love is everlasting and good taste never dies.

Talisman: What do you want your legacy to be?

Ruby: Love yourself and be adored.

Talisman: What gives you the greatest joy?

Ruby: I used to love running up and down the hallways of hotels with Looner, but as I get older, I've come to appreciate the quiet moments more: getting a bang trim, eating tamales from the Farmer's Market in Santa Monica, falling asleep on the couch. Since I am not allowed in the venues where Looner plays (no dogs allowed), I have to say that hearing them play at home, especially when they are working out a new song, brings me infinite joy. Oh! And I just love a good flea dip! Nothing finer...

Zoë Roché is the singer of alternative rock group LOONER. Their new single "I Love My Tamagotchee!” is based on the wave of obsession the world saw from the Japanese “Tamagotchi” toy. Their EP, executive produced by Ziggy Marley, will be released later this year.

The daughter of film composer Basil Poledouris, Zoë was born in Los Angeles and by the age of nine had already made a melodic contribution to the musical world in the soundtrack for “Conan the Barbarian” – a feature film her father had been scoring at the time. As an adult, Zoë continued with her craft and logged compositional credits for such films as “Starship Troopers,” “Cecil B. DeMented,” “Shadow of Doubt” and “Down and Out with the Dolls.” Her official website can be found here: LOONER

PABLO SOLOMON'S MIRO

I am thrilled to conduct my first cat interview! I have always found cats to be rather mysterious creatures. They have imagination, make interesting sounds, and I must confess that one of my guilty pleasures involves licking them...but I digress.

Miro's human is Pablo Solomon, an internationally recognized artist known around the world for drawings and sculptures of dancers. First I'll interview Miro and then tell you more about Pablo.

Talisman: I believe that, in the cosmic design, we animals are here to help people find their way. Presume I am correct (of course) and tell me what human you were born to help, and what lesson you are here to help that person learn.

Miro: My name is Miro and my mission in life is to help my friend Pablo to know that he can do anything. As a kitten I was abandoned on a country road and had one of my front legs mangled by a hawk. It was left useless. I was tiny and helpless and Pablo and his beautiful wife Beverly rescued me and made me their special friend. They were afraid that I would not survive living with them on their ranch. But as I gained my strength, I began to do all the things that 4 legged cats can do--catch mice, climb trees, etc. I think Pablo realized that if a 3 legged cat can do anything, so could he.

Talisman: Do you believe in a Divine Being?

Miro: Of course I do. I live in a beautiful place with a spring fed creek and lots of other animals---some who want to eat me. However, only God could make such a wonderful place for me to live. Pablo's wife Beverly is a Native American and believes that we should pass through this life and only take what we need, be thankful and make things better where we can. So do Pablo and I.

Talisman: Are you afraid of death?

Miro: Things are so nice here that I do not look forward to it. I share Woody Allen's idea--I am not afraid of dying, I just do not want to be there when it happens.

Talisman: What do you want your legacy to be?

Miro: That I brought inspiration to others with what some would see as handicaps.

Talisman: What gives you the greatest joy?

Miro: Catching mice and waking Pablo up at 4 am each day.

Besides being an artist, Pablo Solomon has done things as diverse as having had a bit part in a Mexican soap opera, was a founding teacher at the Houston Contemporary Dance Theatre in the 70s, and trained the Queen's Guard in the Netherlands in hand-to-hand techniques. Currently he lives and works with his wife Beverly on their historic 1856 ranch north of Austin, Texas. Before acting as his muse and business manager, Beverly was a model and then in sales and marketing for Diane von Furstenberg, Revlon and Ralph Lauren. Their ranch is not only a state historic site and an official Texas Wildscape, but was nominated in 1997-98 for the highest award in Texas for environmental restoration and preservation. To show thankfulness for their sucessful and blessed life, Pablo and his wife have been very involved in animal rescue, taking care of animals on their ranch and doing art for animal rescue groups. You can see Pablo's work at http://www.pablosolomon.com/

Now, I would like to bring the post back to me, as I really am my favorite topic of conversation. I am a spokesdog for Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest sanctuary for homeless, abused and abandoned animals. I am promoting a raffle to benefit Best Friends. The winner's animal companion will become a character in the next novel in the RED HOT series of books! To learn more about this, follow your nose to http://www.redhotnovel.com/

VAL HEART'S EINSTEIN

Before my person decided to adopt me, he asked an old country vet what he thought about Australian shepherds. The vet said, "Oh, don't get one because they tend to scare people. They're psychic you know!" That intrigued my person and the rest is history...

Yes, besides being incredibly beautiful, I am also psychic. So someday I would like to meet Val Heart, because she is a professional animal communicator. Her mini-schnauzer, Einstein, is quite special, too. He was only nine weeks old when Val assisted me in asking him the following questions. His answers are truly amazing!

Talisman: I believe that, in the cosmic design, we animals are here to help people find their way. Presume I am correct (of course) and tell me what human you were born to help, and what lesson you are here to help that person learn.

Einstein: Around the end of last year, when I was still in Spirit form, I was asked to help the many lost human souls find their way back to center, to heal, to reconnect with their hearts and the planet’s energies. When I looked for the right human to help me change people’s lives, I found my perfect person in Val Heart. She can communicate with animals so she now speaks with my Voice so you can hear and understand me. We’re the perfect team because we have a shared mission. She’s dedicated her life to helping people connect at deeper levels with their animals. I can help her teach lots more humans and I have very important messages to share with humanity through her gifts. So the Plan was set into motion, and my Mommy and Daddy got together and made me a wonderful new body. I contacted her over the Christmas and New Years holiday season and told her to get ready, I was coming to change the world! I communicated with her for months through dreams and visions and telepathy, and 2 weeks before I was born, I told her to look for me. Sure enough, she found me right away and she knows what our mission is. I’m also here to help Val heal. She’s been very lonely and works way too hard, and she needs me. I’m here to change her life for the better and help her realize her own power, to reconnect with community, to play and embrace the love and flow of life.

Talisman: Do you believe in a Divine Being?

Einstein: I’m not sure I understand the question because we are all Divine Beings. The Divine Spark is in each of us and we are all elements of pure consciousness, quarks in the Quantum Resonance Field, coming from True Source. We simply have different bodies to express ourselves with. Huh. I just thought of this… Have you ever thought that maybe humans and animals are like fleas and ticks on the body of our Mother Earth? But I digress… I came to the Earth to do my soul work, which is helping my human mother teach other humans how to talk to their animal friends. I know my human mother has years of experience, but I believe that together we can make an even bigger difference in the world. Anyway, you know that we animals try to communicate with people all the time. We have messages for them, insights to share, information they don’t know. We want to tell people what’s bothering us, where we hurt – we can even tell them where they hurt. We know what happened in our lives to make us the way we are… and we know what makes us happy and how to make people's life easier and more fun, and healthier too. Humans just need to learn to speak our language better. It’s so hard to try to communicate with them because humans can be so dense! I also want people to realize that we reflect their own imbalances, wounds and issues which makes us their very best teachers and healers. They have a lot to learn from us. And I’m just the dog to teach them. Learning how to work with me and connect at a deeper level helps them be better people – more balanced, kind, and considerate; helps them be healthier and clearer about who they really are – who we animals really are, and can completely transform the quality of life on our planet. And our planet really needs our help right now…

Talisman: Are you afraid of death?

Einstein: What’s to be afraid of? Death is a passage back to Spirit and the veil between worlds is so very thin… we just step out of our bodies. When Death comes it is to be welcomed and embraced. Death is easy. Sometimes the dying is hard, though, but the dying is also a part of life. It is the journey that tempers and illuminates our Spark and sometimes offers the most amazing, life changing lessons… and in that way it becomes like a parting gift to ourselves and our loved ones… until we meet again.

Talisman: What do you want your legacy to be?

Einstein: I want to be remembered as The Dog Who Changed the World. I want my legacy to be a world full of humans that I have been able to touch, inspire, educate and teach so that they know, beyond a doubt, that dogs (and all animals) are in fact Divine messengers. That all animals and other beings are sentient, wise, and are fellow travelers here; and I believe this will help humans enjoy a kinder, gentler, more compassionate, more joyful, stable place of being as the world evolves into it’s next State of Being.

Talisman: What gives you the greatest joy?

Einstein: What really gives me the greatest joy is when I connect with a human and their heart light opens up and shines for all to see. It’s a beautiful thing. I find that life itself is a joy! I love to cleanup our cat Lucy’s food! (She’s says she’s ok with that since she’s mostly finished eating anyway). Pouncing on the octopussy scrunchy toy is a blast too because it makes all these weird crackly noises and I can bite and hump on it all I want... that’s fun too! And my tug toy is very exciting! Chewing and grooming my bear-bear and my other stuffed toys… Oh! I also enjoy car rides, and treats! Treats are great! And learning new games is fun, and meeting people, and just running for the sheer joy of it!

COLLEEN PAIGE'S TINKERBELLE

Well, the first thing I would like to say about Tinkerbelle is that she and I share similar taste in food. It takes a dog of high intelligence and refinement to truly appreciate gourmet fare.

Tinkerbelle's person is Colleen Paige, one of America's premier pet lifestyle experts. First I will conduct an interview with Tinkerbelle, and then I'll tell you more about Colleen.

Now, I am a serious reporter; I don't ask fluffy questions. So prepare to be dazzled!

Talisman: I believe that, in the cosmic design, we animals are here to help people find their way. Presume I am correct (of course) and tell me what human you were born to help, and what lesson you are here to help that person learn.

Tinkerbelle: I was named "Mascot of National Dog Day", as I was born to bring joy and kisses to the masses and mainly to bring my mommy and daddy together ( he hired my mommy to teach me manners. I no longer lift my leg in public ) I showed both of them that magical love and finding your true soulmate really does exist, even when you've given up all hope of ever finding it. I'm little. But I bring BIG LOVE to people everywhere I go.

Talisman: Do you believe in a Divine Being?

Tinkerbelle: I believe in God because my mommy and daddy do. I would never want to be away from them, even if I have to hang out with the big J for a while until they come home. Plus... how can you not believe in God after tasting barbequed salmon?

Talisman: Are you afraid of death?

Tinkerbelle: No. Because I understand in heaven you can have anything you want. Starting my list: a little harp music....barbequed salmon, a heart to heart with God....barbequed salmon.....full body massage by an angel....barbequed salmon....long nap, much, much closer to the sun than before.....barbequed salmon....a giggling three year old to jump on and kiss.....barbequed salmon....

Talisman: What do you want your legacy to be?

Tinkerbelle: I want people to remember that one little dog, on one day a year, helped to save thousands of other dogs who no one wanted. I went from the dumpster to a dream. And they can too! I ask everyone to please adopt when they want another furry child. Please don't buy from pet stores as it only supports puppy mills. Oh yes, and one more thing - Chihuahua's FOR Pit Bulls! Woop! Woop!

Talisman: What gives you the greatest joy?

Tinkerbelle: Have I ever mentioned barbequed salmon?

Like me, Tinkerbelle is a wise and witty canine...

Colleen Paige is the author of “The Good Behavior Book for Dogs” (Rockport/Quarry Books 2007), founder of National Dog Day, a domestic and wildlife animal behaviorist, pet friendly interior designer, fine art pet photographer and Editor-in-Chief of Pet Home Magazine, she offers advice to clients and readers alike, ranging from dog and cat training, to pet nutrition, pet friendly homes and gardens, pet safe pools and pet safety for kids.

A passionate animal welfare advocate, Colleen created the Animal Miracle Network (AMN), to help save animals on a large scale. AMN is home to National Dog Day, a very special holiday that celebrates dogs for all they do, which helps to find homes for thousands of them across the nation through events and far reaching media campaigns. After the overwhelming response to this day back in 2005, she felt confident to then create the same lifesaving celebrations for other animals in need, with National Cat Day, National Horse Protection Day and National Wildlife Day, among others.

Currently, Colleen is a Contributing Expert for Total Health & Wellness Network, OK! Celebrity Magazine and DogTime.com. She is also in pre-production of a TV show based off of her magazine, Pet Home. Her website is http://www.colleenpaige.com/

ATTENTION FAMOUS PETS!

I'm planning a new feature here on my blog where I will conduct interviews with celebrities and their pets. As I am very philosophical, we will discuss meaningful things and--since I am also witty and charming--I expect we will have a lot of fun, too!

I have learned in life that because we don't speak their language, many humans think we aren't intelligent. Well, this will give us an opportunity to dispel that insanely narcissistic attitude.

(Not that I know anything about narcissism...)

So, if you are famous like me, have your person contact me to arrange an interview. My personal email address is Tali@RedHotNovel.com

And I'm sure you'll understand it when I say, it soon will be your pleasure to speak with me!

BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SANCTUARY

Dogs are trend setters...we lived "In The Now" before it was New Age fashionable to do so. This is why we tend to feel that every single moment of our lives is THE WAY IT WILL ALWAYS BE.

Even though I have a higher IQ than most dogs I, too, live from the heart-space of Now. So, when Val leaves me alone--if even it is just to go check the mail--I am extraordinarily happy when he walks back in the door. And when he is cross with me it devastates me beyond all reason.

If Val were to hurt me, or abandon me, or leave me without a forever home I cannot express the anguish I would feel.

I know from my many friendships that animals of all species have hearts that also break.

This is why my spirit was filled with joy when Val introduced me to Best Friends Animal Society, the nation's largest sanctuary for homeless, abused, and abandoned animals. It is a refuge where hearts and bodies are mended by humans caring for animals, and by animals bonding with each other. No animals are killed because they are inconvenient, or troubled, or ill. Those who aren't suited to living with people are loved anyway, and those who want forever homes sometimes find them because of the work Best Friends does.

So, when I found out that Best Friends is funded by charitable donations, I came up with the idea of holding a raffle to benefit the sanctuary. The winner's pet will become a character in my creator's new novel and will become famous, just like me! And the animals at Best Friends will continue to know love...just like me.

Please enter the raffle. Don't wait. Time is different for us.
